2020 AP EXAM INFORMATION
Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Ann Sobrato High School has the expectation that all students will take the AP exam if they are enrolled in an AP class. In addition to providing valuable information about our AP program at Sobrato, scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount of tuition and opening doors for more advanced courses, double majors, and/or study abroad. It also gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and validate their effort in their subject areas. Research also shows that students that take AP courses and exams are significantly more likely to graduate from college in 4 years or fewer.
At this time, CollegeBoard is planning for in person testing in the spring. Should that not be possible, we will receive further information from them directly.
How to Register for the AP Exams:
All exam orders and purchases will be completed online this year. The AP exam registration process is now open and will end on Friday, October 2nd at 4:00 PM. College Board research shows that when students sign up for their AP exams during the first few weeks of school, they are more likely to pass their exams
In order to register, students should visit:
We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the information is accurate. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning the online registration. If this is not possible, after the successful completion of the registration form online, a printed PDF copy of the confirmation can be mailed to the address that is provided along with a check or money order.
Please note that the registration is not complete until students have received the confirmation code at the end of the process. If there are technical difficulties, students can email Lynn Secolo email@example.com.
The cost for each AP exam is $95. Because we expect that all students will take their AP exams if they are enrolled in AP courses, there is financial assistance that can be provided if needed.
Buy Three, the Rest are Free: As we also recognize that this is a large expense for our Sobrato families who have students that are taking more than three exams, we are also offering assistance for each exam after the third exam has been purchased. Buy three and the rest are free. Siblings may combine exams and receive this benefit as well. Students should register for all exams and then only pay for three exams. Please contact Sue in the ASB Office or at firstname.lastname@example.org for additional support.
Free/Reduced Lunch Program: If students are qualified for the federal free and reduced lunch program, $15 will be charged per exam. This will automatically occur through the online registration process as well. For all other issues of financial hardship, please contact Sue Baynes via email BaynesS@mhusd.org or call 408-201-6205 for more information.
There are test prep materials available on Naviance for many of the AP exams. Go to the link below to locate this valuable FREE resource:
CollegeBoard will also be offering extensive online support for your students. Teachers will assist students in registering for these supports.
If a student has a 504 education plan or an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and needs accommodations during the exam but has NOT been approved by College Board yet, please contact the Case Manager or Assistant Principal Theresa Sage for assistance with this process.
If a student has already been approved for accommodations through College Board, we will work with the student to make specific arrangements prior to the exam day.
