Diploma Pick-up & Car Procession

Our community has made great progress in slowing the spread of COVID-19 under the existing Shelter in Place Order. Because of this, Santa Clara County Public Health recently announced an amendment to the current Shelter in Place Order effective May 22, 2020.  Although it is still unsafe to gather for a traditional ceremony, the Department of Public Health’s amended order does lift the restriction on car parades.

  • Beginning at 9:00 am: Graduates may pick up their diplomas from the campus, dressed in cap and gown. An adult family member must be driving the car.  The student only (wearing a mask) will exit the vehicle and receive their diploma.  They will then be photographed with their diploma (mask removed) in front of the Sobrato theater, and return to the car.  Sobrato graduates will be contacted on June 2 to sign up for a timeslot.
  • 9:30 am to noon: After receiving their diploma from their school, the student will re-enter the car and the family is invited to join Sobrato, Live Oak, and Central graduates in a car procession along a predetermined route. Car decorations are also encouraged, however, the decorations must adhere to the vehicle (think window paints) as flyaway decorations that could litter or distract drivers are not permitted and could subject the drivers to citations.  The route will be announced as soon as we receive the proper clearances from law enforcement.

NOTE: One car limit per graduate.  Additionally, the Shelter in Place order requires students to ride in the car only with members of their own family and does not allow for students to exit the vehicle at any time during the car parade. Cars are also not allowed to stop and congregate at a fixed location. While we understand graduates may be very excited about celebrating, we must stress the importance of complying with the Shelter in Place order.

Disneyland Resort Grad Nite

On 4/16/20, Disneyland announced the official cancellation of their Grad Nite events in light of recommendations to limit gatherings.

Sobrato students purchased their trip tickets through WorldStrides.  Below is information related to cancellations from their website:

"As your travel provider, we will continue to navigate the myriad of consequences of this to ensure we provide you with the very best cancellation and refund information.  For now, we continue working with our travel partners including Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six Flags, hotels, coach companies, etc. (where applicable) to ensure we maximize and expediate your refund.

From your end, there is nothing further to do on your part, to either officially cancel your trip or request a refund, as your trip has now been cancelled automatically. Once we receive the appropriate monies back for all component costs paid out to our suppliers, we will notify you of the applicable refund.  For the majority of you who purchased our TRP coverage (Trip Refund Program), the TRP fund is committed to returning all monies paid, minus the $30 TRP fee.  Based on our supplier, company and TRP terms, please allow 6-8 weeks for the entire refund process."
